How it works

How to compare two PDFs

  1. 01

Drop the original PDF and the changed version into the upload area, together or one at a time.

  2. 02

Check that the original is on the left, and use Swap if it is the other way around.

  3. 03

Scroll through both documents side by side, or click a change in the list to jump straight to it.

  4. 04

Click Download report to save a PDF summary with every change highlighted.

01

Word-by-word differences

Every added, removed or reworded word is found, even when text has moved to a different page.

02

Side-by-side view

Both versions scroll together, with removals highlighted in red on the original and additions in green on the new version.

03

Shareable change report

Download a PDF with a summary, a numbered list of every change and the new version with its additions highlighted.

Questions

Frequently asked

What does Compare PDF check?

It compares the text of both documents word by word and shows what was added, removed or changed. Images, colors and layout are not compared.

Can I compare scanned PDFs?

Scanned pages are images, so they have no text to compare. Run them through PDF OCR first, then compare the results.

What if a paragraph moved to another page?

The comparison runs across the whole document, not page by page, so text that simply shifted to the next page is not flagged as changed.

Is Compare PDF free?

Yes. It is free to use, with no sign-up and no watermarks.

Can I compare PDFs on my phone?

Yes. CrestPDF works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android. On a phone you can switch between the original and the changed version.
